MSU Health Care Sports Medicine Sponsors 30th Annual Capital City River Run

East Lansing, Mich.MSU Health Care Sports Medicine, a leader in providing comprehensive health care services to athletes in the Michigan community, is proud to be the title sponsor and medical support for the athletes throughout the day for the 30th-anniversary edition of the Capital City River Run. This beloved Lansing event showcases family-friendly races that bring the community together while supporting a worthy cause. 

The Capital City River Run is a series of races that not only promote fitness and community spirit but also contribute to the betterment of the local area. This event benefits Lansing’s Impression 5 Science Center to provide children and families with access to hands-on science exploration through exhibits and participatory programming to over 160,000 guests each year. 

For more than 30 years, MSU Health Care Sports Medicine has provided quality health care to the mid-Michigan area. The Capital City River Run sponsorship expands upon the long-standing community service MSU Health Care Sports Medicine provides through on-site school pre-participation physicals, injury clinics, and medical coverage for sporting events. Selected as the official medical providers of MSU athletes, MSU Health Care Sports Medicine also provides medical coverage for high school, Olympic, and professional sports teams. MSU Health Care pediatricians, physical therapists, and Michigan State University medical fellows and students will also be supporting the event.

Scheduled to take place on September 23 and 24, 2023, the Capital City River Run offers an array of races to cater to participants of all ages and abilities. The exciting lineup includes a Half Marathon, Half Marathon Relay, 5k Walk/Run, and the Sohn Kid’s Race. 

The festivities kick off on Saturday, September 23, at 11:00 a.m. with the one-mile Sohn Kid’s Race, commencing at Impression 5 Science Center and winding along the picturesque Lansing River Trail. All young participants will receive a finisher's medal, a lunchbox, Menchie’s coupons, and FREE admission to Impression 5 Science Center pizza party. 

On Sunday, September 24, starting at 8:00am, the main racing events begin on Michigan Avenue in front of the Lansing Center. These races offer a premier racing experience, highlighting the natural beauty of Michigan's capital city and its adjoining rivers. Participants in the half marathon, half marathon relay, and 5K will traverse historic Michigan Avenue, local city parks, and the Lansing River Trail, culminating in a finish in front of Rotary Park in downtown Lansing. Each participant will receive a finisher's medal, race apparel, and post-race refreshments.
