MSU Health Care physical therapist Olivia Roe

At MSU Health Care, we are proud to celebrate the accomplishments of our talented providers dedicated to providing high-quality patient care and advancing the field of physical therapy. New physical therapist and recent graduate Olivia Roe, PT, DPT, CSCS was recently honored with the American Physical Therapy Association of Michigan (APTA-MI) Outstanding Student Physical Therapist Award. This recognition is awarded to students in Michigan’s Doctor of Physical Therapy (DPT) and Physical Therapy Assistant (PTA) programs who demonstrate exceptional academic performance, commitment to professional development, and community service.

Olivia was nominated by professors at the University of Michigan-Flint’s Department of Physical Therapy, an accolade that signifies both trust and respect from her mentors. As the award criteria highlight, candidates must hold a minimum GPA of 3.2, be members of APTA and APTA Michigan, and show exemplary involvement in academic and professional activities. “I feel extremely honored and humbled to receive this award,” Olivia said. “Graduate school was a transformative time that deepened my passion for physical therapy and helped me grow both personally and professionally. This recognition motivates me to continue learning and striving to provide the best possible care to my patients and community.”

The journey into physical therapy began early, with a passion for helping people and a desire to pursue a health care career. Olivia’s commitment was solidified after experiencing physical therapy personally during rehabilitation from a sports injury. This early exposure not only fueled her determination but also ignited a lifelong dedication to empowering others through recovery.

During her time in graduate school, Olivia seized every opportunity to develop her skills and knowledge. Highlights included volunteering at the HEART pro-bono clinic, serving on the student board, and conducting research presented at conferences on both local and international stages. One of her most memorable moments was traveling to Monte-Carlo, Monaco, to present research alongside team members. “It was an incredible experience to learn from some of the world’s leading experts in physical therapy,” she recalled, “and a moment I will never forget.”

As she looks forward to an impactful career, Olivia is committed to staying up to date with the latest research and embracing new advancements in the field. Her approach emphasizes compassionate, evidence-based care, aimed at fostering patient recovery and wellness. “I feel privileged to serve in this role and am excited for the future of physical therapy,” she noted. “Our profession is always evolving, and I am eager to keep learning and growing to support my patients in the best way possible.”

Congratulations to Olivia on this well-deserved recognition!
