Osteopathic Manipulative Medicine

MSU Health Care Osteopathic Manipulative Medicine addresses the health care needs of the people of Michigan through Osteopathic patient care, medical education, and research. As faculty of Michigan State University's College of Osteopathic Medicine, our mission is to:

  • Maintain a model of Osteopathic medical practice
  • Provide leadership in the transformation and promotion of Osteopathic principles
  • Contribute to osteopathic philosophy's biological, behavioral, and clinical science foundation

MSU Health Care Osteopathic Manipulative Medicine complements traditional therapies and offers non-surgical options for acute and chronic neuromusculoskeletal and arthrodial conditions.

Providers at MSU Health Care’s Osteopathic Manipulative Medicine clinics have faculty appointments in Michigan State University College of Osteopathic Medicine, Department of Osteopathic Manipulative Medicine. Not only do you get access to MSU Faculty and their latest research innovations, our clinic also is the only one in the state dedicated solely to the discipline of Neuromusculoskeletal medicine.

Since we are a teaching clinic, it is customary to see residents and medical students alongside our providers.

We treat individuals of all ages from infants to seniors. Our treatments are complementary—they can enhance other modalities of care and are often combined with physical therapy under the overall coordination of a primary care physician. Therefore, a referral is required.

For individuals without insurance, the MSU Student OMM Clinic may offer a viable option.

  • What is Osteopathic Manipulative Medicine?
Developed 130 years ago by physician A.T. Still, osteopathic medicine is one of the fastest growing healthcare professions in the United States and brings a unique philosophy to traditional medicine. With a strong emphasis on the inter-relationships of the body’s nerves, muscles, bones, and organs, doctors of osteopathic medicine, or DO’s, apply the philosophy of treating the whole person. DO’s place particular emphasis on the musculoskeletal system. DO’s believe that all of the body’s systems, including the nervous and musculoskeletal system, work together and that disturbances in one system may impact function elsewhere in the body.
